It's been three years since we failed Vicky, the child once known as Elizabeth Gray. Three years she's lived as something not quite alive, but far from dead. Her path grows darker, even as she spreads light and hope through a tortured world. The Destroyer has come to claim her, and I can’t fail her again. I won't. A subpar installment
By Amazon Customer
This was a disappointing and confusing installation. The whole Burning Lands trip was like an acid trip; a lot of imagery and concepts were constantly being introduced to the point where the reader can't get their bearings before being barraged with some new reference. It doesn't help that the author makes no effort to recap what had gone on before or who the characters are. The Burning Lands are laid out in an unnatural series of concentric circles and the nights are deadly in a magical manner, but exactly why this is the case is never explored or questioned. The goal of the trip is to follow some prescription from a magical book to free Vicky from a demon possession, but the instructions are vague, and how all of this is supposed to work, or what binding to a Timewalker will do, or even what that is, is never explained. In general, the magic system is never explained, it's rules and restrictions change arbitrarily, and the main character vacillates between being extremely over-powered (to the point of being a God) and not being able to build a bridge or destroy some demons with his magic. After the build up of a harrowing trip to the center of the Burning Land, this plot thread comes to an abrupt and anticlimactic end. The rest of the book lingers on, with a consequential event that will have deep repercussions happening out of sight of the readers. I will read the sequel because I've gotten this far, but if it is as dissatisfying as this installment, I will stop there: I have the feeling that part of what made this entry subpar is the author's decision to stretch asides to novel length and inflate them with overblown imagery and references to vague magical beings, artifacts, etc. in order to make the series last longer.

The twists & turns keep coming!!
By Vicki Rose
As a fan of this series from the beginning, I've been waiting for what seems like ages for this novel to come out.. It was definitely well worth the wait!
Book Five in Eric Asher's fantastic Vesik series, "Destroyer Rising" premieres with a "Bang"!
If you're a fan of Urban Fantasy, this is one series you absolutely MUST READ!
As always, Mr Asher continues to delve deeply into his fascinating, spell-binding world of unique characters, giving them real personalities that are enticingly brought forth with his interesting writing style. He never misses a beat with his characters... Not only can you watch & feel the development of each character in his books, but you're able to truly relate with them, regardless of the species..
Mr Asher pours his heart into the lead character, Damian... You can feel his pain & relate to his humor; some of it is certainly eye-roll worthy, but it's always so much fun and captures the essence of "Damian" so well! Damian's Fae sidekick, Foster, is on point, as well!
The normal, intensely humorous relationship between the friends is strained in this book because of actions Damian doesn't fully understand, but Mr Asher brings a satisfying conclusion to the novel and doesn't leave any plot holes, which seems to be the biggest problem with newer urban fantasy authors...
This novel brings the perfect closure to some very dramatic happenings in the series, thus far.. Most notably, the plot line with Vicky (aka: Elizabeth), who is the ghost of a murdered child, (previously found by Foster & Damian in an earlier book) and is currently possessed by The Destroyer, Prosperine, hence the title ...
As far as the ending of this book... Let's just say that I was a crying mess for hours.. I truly cannot wait to see where Mr Asher continues to take this series...
I'd like to note that I wasn't an Urban Fantasy fan prior to reading this series & now it's one of my favorite genres, if that helps describe the intensity of this series... Now the wait begins again for the next book!
I'd also like to let readers know that"Destroyer Rising" is one of my TOP FIVE BOOKS OF THE YEAR!

urban fantasy that drifts into hell in this case - read the series in order
By David G
Urban fantasy - werewolves, fairies, vampires, demons and even a few gods. What more could you want? The hero Damien Vesik has a bit of an attitude and smart mouth which surprisingly has not gotten him turned into ash at some point. You really need to read the series in order to follow what is going on. Even then I had to check to make sure I was reading the stories in order as author has a tendency to start in the middle and to refer to things that already happened with insufficient background for the reader. Perhaps there is a series of short stories which fill in the blanks I missed or the author intended to include these background, then edited them out. A good continuity editor would help. Overall somewhat reminiscent of the "Bill the Vampire" series by Rick Gualtieri.
This story goes into the burning lands and jumps around. Vesik at first seems pretty powerless in this land of arch demons fighting demon foot soldiers.. By the end he seems too powerful with no real challenge involved.A little more consistency would help.
