If you need a miracle (and who doesn't), this books for you.

The story of Delores Winder is one which should grab people's attention. She has encountered God in ways that most of us can only vaguely envision. And the ironic thing is that she fought God with all the strength she had despite his manifest presence in her life. I found myself a bit jealous at the lengths that God went to woo her to His service. I'd like to think that with a fraction of her blessings I would firmly plant myself on God's bandwagon. I know that might be a little presumptuous. For all I know I have had similar types of blessings and have ignored the Lord's work in my life just as a blatantly as she did. We really won't know this side of Heaven how much work the Holy Spirit did in nurturing our walk with the Creator. In any case, God worked a mighty miracle in her life but Delores was reticent to accept it and loathe to acknowledge it. But God didn't give up.

This is a book about healing, but the author did not even believe in healing. After she herself was healed and delivered from a death sentence, she was almost shanghaied into service to heal others. She told God not to heal people when she spoke. She ran from God much like Jonah did. She didn't end up in the belly of a whale but ended up with a whale of a tale to tell and it's all in this book. Her husband Bill helped her tell it, and they do a commendable job. I don't know anyone who is not touched in some fashion by disease and injury. Everyone has a family member or good friend who is in desperate need of the healing power of God. The author provides hope for people that God is still a deity of miracles today. She was perhaps one of the biggest skeptics on earth before she felt the touch and was restored from being an invalid and on her death bed to a vibrant woman involved in a grateful ministry to those hurting around her. God not only healed her body, but he healed her heart and created within her the desire to bring God's restoration to other humans. The healing of her heart may have been the biggest miracle.

The battle rages between those who believe in the cessation of the gifts of the Spirit and those who walk in those gifts. Delores has been in both camps during her lifetime. Any intelligent and rational human must consider this woman's testimony in regard to this debate. How could such a stubborn and skeptical woman become a poster child for God's miracles without the authentic touch of God? MS Winder is not an ordinary person. She has God's anointing on her life. Kathryn Kuhlman poured into Delores's life, and now she passes on the anointing to others as her protégés practice the ripple effect by healing others. Hopefully some of her protégés will spawn more protégés . And perhaps some of them will have books to write.

Delores had put God into a very tiny box and refused to believe that He could escape it. When she finally let herself realize that He was not only capable but willing to heal people, she slashed the box into paper mache. If you're guilty of squishing God into your own paradigm, you need to read this book and discover a new dimension to your Creator. I double dog dare you. Perhaps your skepticism is beyond repair, but then again maybe you're desperate for more of God and perhaps desperate for a miracle for yourself or a loved one. You may never be involved with a miraculous healing. I'm not quite sure how God governs this process and why some people are able to dole out or receive healing. But I can guarantee you that God moves in mysterious ways and it seems that he is pouring His spirit out upon this planet with healings and with dreams and visions. Give Him a chance to show you. Your life may never be the same.

Wow!! Surprised- I devoured this book

I loved this book! It arrived today, I could not put it down. Instead of cleaning shopping and preparing for my Easter company who will be arriving in a few days, I read this book. It is that good. I finished it and prayed for guidance as to how many copies I should now buy and who to share this wonderful story with.

This book moved me to tears. Buy it, you won't be sorry. This book touches on so many topics besides the obvious that the author was healed, that it is hard to pick just which to highlight for my review.

This book answered a lot of questions that I have asked God about over the years. Such as, I have always been perplexed over people speaking in tongues. I have had long conversations with friends as we pondered just what is the point of speaking in tongues? I have asked God, "Why does He move a person to speak out so that no-one can understand not even the person speaking?" That it what it often seems like to those of us who can't understand. Well soon after the author received her supernatural healing she was asked to speak as a guest in a church about her healing, (she didn't know anyone in that church and she had been shunned in her own church that didn't teach that healing miracles were possible). I was moved by the author's description of a prophecy that she received as she was introduced to the church congregation by a stranger.

The author had never heard a prophecy in her own church and receiving it embarrassed her.

Pg 72 [The prophecy was given in "tongues," but I heard it in perfect English. I didn't know the utterance was in tongues. What I heard made me mad and frightened. She had the audacity to go into my life for the next 20 years. There I was, holding onto the pulpit, getting madder every minute. The woman was prophesying about how God was going to use me in His work.

"Why is she saying that stuff?" I asked myself, fuming inside.

"That's not true! I'm not going to do that! And all these people are hearing it!"]

Later on the ride home from that church, the author learned from her family that no-one but she had understood the prophecy in English, everyone else had only heard an unintelligible utterance in tongues.

Page after page I could not put the book down until I finished it. Seriously buy the book.

CAPTIVATING!! Give This Book to Anyone Who Desires Healing and to Even The Most Skeptical....

It just doesn't get any more "real" than this! I opened the book and never put it down. Probably THE most unusual healing I've ever heard of, simply because of Mrs. Winder's strong belief that "healing is not for today"...prior to her own! It is a story of tremendous grace and mercy. I personally so appreciated Mrs. Winder's complete and total honesty, as she shares with the reader about her own skepticism of Divine healing and even a resistance to receive her own healing. This is about a woman who had not long since been involved in planning her own funeral! You've often heard of God having a plan for your life...this story will certainly build your faith in that regard. It's thrilling to watch His plan unfold in Mrs. Winder's life, even while she just wasn't so sure about the blueprint! He has used her "spunkiness", boldness and courage to reveal His great love, mercy, patience and power to hurting people. This is a book that leaves you feeling as though you took the whole journey alongside Mrs. Winder, with no stone left unturned. In the end, you will have become acquainted with one brave lady who tells it like it is! You'll be glad you did.

In the second half of the book, Summers applies this model of therapeutic action to common clinical syndromes revolving around depression, narcissistic injuries, somatic symptoms, and internalized bad objects.  Here we find vivid documentation of specific clinical strategies in which the therapeutic use of potential space gives rise to new ways of being and relating which, in turn, anchor the creation of a new sense of self.

Frank Summers, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, is a training and supervising analyst at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis and an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University Medical School.  A member of the faculties of the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis, the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute, and the Wisconsin Psychoanalytic Institute, Dr. Summers maintains a private practice of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapy in Chicago, IL.

Thought provoking, carefully reasoned and useful

"Self creation" continues the developmental process for Summers' views on psychotherapy and emotional distress. Here he shows, with case examples, how therapists can help people achieve true personal change. Psychotherapy is not about changing habits, but about developing your mind to its fullest potential so that you can have the optimal life possible. Too often, it devolves into problem solving or behavior modification. Summers shows how therapists can help their clients grow into their best possible selves by fostering a true developmental process. This book is extremely accessible, reasonable, and clear.

Love this book! I am almost done with nursing school and when I am feeling overwhelmed I pick up this book and remember why I started. This book is packed with advice from nurses in all aspects of the field. So many of these quotes really resonate with me and remind me why I started this crazy journey into nursing. What a perfect gift for a recent graduate or even a nursing student who needs a little extra motivation! This book is associated with Kaplan which to me makes it credible and an even better addition to my bookshelf.

About the Author

Patrick Dawson is a Professor of Management at the University of Aberdeen.  He holds a PhD in industrial sociology from the University of Southampton and during his early career worked at the University of Surrey and the University of Edinburgh.  He moved to Australia in the 1980s and took up a position at the University of Adelaide.  In studying change in UK, Australian and New Zealand based organizations, Patrick has worked on a number of Australian Research Council (ARC) and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded projects in collaboration with scholars at other universities.  He has examined change in a number of organizations including: Pirelli Cables, British Rail, General Motors, Hewlett Packard and the CSIRO.  Since taking up the Salvesen Chair at Aberdeen he has held visiting professorships at Roskilde University and the Danish Technical University in Denmark, an adjunct professorship at Monash University and a research professorship at the University of Wollongong in Australia. 

Constantine Andriopoulos is a Professor of Strategy at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University. He holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Strathclyde and has previously worked at the University of Strathclyde, the University of Aberdeen and Brunel University.  His research focuses on how organizational paradoxes enable innovation in a diverse range of contexts. In particular, he studies how companies in high-velocity markets can excel at both incremental (exploiting current capabilities) and discontinuous innovation (exploring into new space).  He also studies the role of curiosity in organizational life. His research, funded by the Carnegie Trust and the Institute for Innovation & Information Productivity, has been published in leading academic journals such as Organization Science, Human Relations, Long Range Planning, European Journal of Marketing, International Small Business Journal, International Marketing Review, among others.

Avoid. Waste of time and money

This book is absolutely atrocious. There is absolutely no original thought and no flow whatsoever. It leaves you thinking "what did I just read after every sentence. The text is filled with so many in text citations that you constantly lose your train of thought. For most chapters (which are about 20 pages long) have four or five pages of citations. This book was a complete waste of time and money, don't bother.

Erica S. Kim is a published author and dynamic speaker. She served as a missionary for almost 20 years on three different continents and speaks to many audiences about her life experiences, marriage, parenting, and grace. This Ungracious World

On February 8, 1988 while living in San Francisco, I received a phone call from my father, who was living in New Jersey at the time. “Your mother killed herself. I found her dead today,” he said in almost a whisper. As soon as he finished his sentence, I crumpled to the kitchen floor. I wailed so loudly that my 15-month-old baby, Miyoko, who had been playing in her room, came running and began to stroke my head as if I was the baby, and not her. Cradling the phone that was attached to the wall, my body heaved as I wept and wept. After a few minutes passed, my father said, “Come home.” What came out of my mouth following his words surprised me. “It’s your fault,” I replied while weeping. “Did you hear me? You did this to her.” The phone clicked as my father hung up.

In my grief and pain, I blamed my father. I was alone with my daughter and held her as I continued to cry for another hour before picking up the phone to leave a message for my husband who had flown to Japan early that morning. My mind raced in different directions. I was four months pregnant with our second child and had been frantically trying to contact my mother all day, since I had begun to spot that morning. My mother was a nurse, so I wanted her advice. The next day, in spite of being in a fog of grief, I made an emergency appointment to see my obstetrician. During my appointment, the doctor told me that if I got on a plane, I would probably lose the baby. I didn’t care anymore. I wanted to go home.

Many of us have experienced tragedy, abuse, and different forms of suffering, often in ways that are unique to us as women. God looks at each of us and knows our pain and feels each one of those scars. Even though we are Christians, when faced with crisis, our first response is too often not one of grace but rather a desire to lash out and blame others. Other times, we run away, withdrawing from even those who love us most. It is during these kinds of times that we see how much grace we lack in our lives and how much more we need to understand it, both for ourselves and towards others.

Jesus never lashed out from the cross. He endured a deep agony that we may never have to undergo during our lifetime just so we would not have to suffer eternally. It is through his life and attitude that we are taught how to respond in the most difficult times. Even though my general nature is to be easily forgiving towards others, I was not prepared for my response in times of grief. I saw that my faith and my heart were not strong enough to endure and to respond with the kind of grace that Jesus had shown me. I fell short with my father who was already torn up by his own feelings guilt. I reacted badly towards him and towards others during the hardest times in my life.

Whether you've been a Christian for many years or are just starting out on your journey with God, this book is very inspirational and impacting! I personally have been going through a very challenging time in my life and this book has really been helping me to have the faith to overcome the obstacles that are in front of me and to truly understand God's grace. It is a must read!
