Master ASP.NET Core hands-on: from architecture through deployment and beyond

This book guides you through the entire process of building, deploying, and managing cross-platform web apps with ASP.NET Core. You’ll master Microsoft’s revolutionary open source ASP.NET Core technology, and learn how to integrate the immense power of MVC, Docker, Azure Web Apps, Visual Studio, C#, JavaScript, and Entity Framework. Working alongside the fictitious development team at Alpine Ski House, you’ll witness a four-sprint journey starting with a blank canvas. You’ll see the team architect and design their software, adjust to user feedback, and move through builds, testing, deployment, maintenance, and refactoring.

Throughout, you’ll discover how to deliver state-of-the-art software faster and more repeatably than ever before.

Three leading Microsoft MVPs show how to:

• Build great cross-platform apps using ASP.NET Core and open source frameworks

• Go beyond MVC to build a complete ASP.Net Core application

• Create builds on Day One and quickly deploy viable products

Great book to get you up to speed with the powerful new ASP.NET Core!
By R. Zelt
This book is well written and well planned to give the reader a good foundation of understanding and real world scenarios to better understand the new world of ASP.NET Core. ASP.NET Core brings a powerful set of new tools, but also a lot of changes to the old ways of doing things. This book makes an excellent guide to get you up to speed and provide a rich resource going beyond the basics. The authors have put together a lot of great info!

Hard to follow
By Gary Bushey
This book is quite hard to follow. It is like they are trying to tell a story but that makes it hard to find the information you need. They put chapters on Azure, Containers, and Cross-Platform before chapters like Entity Framework, Views, and Configuration which can really confuse people as these are more advanced concepts and, IMHO, should appear towards the end of the book.

Introduce many technologies and frameworks without much detail
By Win
Title is misleading. I thought I will be developing ASP.Net Core application from start to finish in 4 sprints. I was wrong; authors divide the book into 4 sections, and call each part as Sprint. It is definitely not same Sprint we use in Agile development with Scrum.

I wish I could write the sample project from the scratch along with the book, but it is not designed to read that way. Authors use the source from GitHub, and then randomly pull out codes from the project and briefly explain them in the book. Some codes explained in the books do not match up the downloaded source code.

I should have started reading from part 3 and 4 before part 1 and 2. I personally think sample project is excellent, and follows good practices. I wish authors focus more on the sample project instead of introducing new technologies and techniques totally out of the scope such as Docker Container, Azure Blob Storage and Azure AD, and leave you with many questions.

Authors definitely have extensive knowledge on the subject, and want to introduce you with new technologies in each chapters. Although the book said previous version of MVC experience is not required, I personally think reader should be mid to senior developer or software architect in order to fully understand and implement those technologies.
