Amazing Maxey

Glen Maxey is the most important, courageous leader of the LGBT movement in Tx history, and his book is a fantastic read--it reads almost like a detective thriller. Maxey clearly has a vast network of connections in the gay community that no ordinary journalist could hope to match. The direct evidence he recites is strong (though, as he says, it's still hearsay)--the stories of the gay hustler and the Craigslist guy are amazing. But the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. After reading the book, I'm convinced. I'm sure that some readers will disagree. No sensible American cares if Perry is gay, but given his recent vicious campaign attacks on gays, the real issue is about his profound hypocrisy. As Maxey recounts, at one point Perry approved hate-crimes legislation--but now he promotes hatred. That's the worst sort of hypocrisy. Last point: Maxey's description of the national press collapse on this story is one of the most interesting parts of the book, but downright depressing. What does this entire episode say about journalistic ethics and standards? This is an important, provocative book. - CV

Titillating but carefully factual

I have known some of the persons mentioned in this book for up to 50 years. I don't know about all the facts in Glen Maxey's ebook, but I do know that he has them right about those people I know. I personally wouldn't care whether Perry was gay or not except for his trying to rally his supporters around anti-gay bigotry. Thank you, Glen Maxey, for putting out the truth about the man.

Well done!

A well written document, and oddly, as a lifelong Texan, this actually gave me some compassion for Perry, the man. While it is heresay, and I would like to be fair, I also believe this is one of the instances of a hell of a lot of smoke indicating a fire. I have known Glen Maxey as a man of integrity and courage for over twenty years and his authorship gives great weight to this book. Having lived with Perry's governership for several years, I would not have thought compassion was possible. That said, Perry, the lying hypocrite, becomes more of an issue. Arrogant, and more than a little dim, he is an embarrassment, as well as a dangerous man to empower.

About the Author
Laurent L Jacque is the Walter B Wriston Professor of International Finance & Banking at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University) and Director of its International Business Studies Program. He is the author of two books — Management and Control of Foreign Exchange Risk (Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1996), and Management of Foreign Exchange Risk: Theory and Praxis (Lexington Books, 1978) — as well as many articles on International Risk Management, Multinational Control Systems and Capital Markets. He served as an advisor and consultant to the Foreign Exchange Rate Forecasting Service of Wharton Econometrics, Forecasting Associates (1982–1990) and as a member of Water Technologies Inc's board of directors (1991–1994). Jacque received the James L Paddock award for teaching excellence at The Fletcher School in 1996. He is a consultant to a number of firms in the area of corporate finance and risk management and has taught in many Management Development Programs, including Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Merck, Sharp & Dohme, Philadelphia National Bank, General Motors, Bunge and Born (Brazil), Rhone-Poulenc (France), Siam Commercial Bank (Thailand), Daewoo (South Korea), General Electric, Dupont de Nemours, Norwest Bank, Bangkok Bank (Thailand), INSEAD, Pechiney, Petrobras and the IFC (World Bank group).

About the Author
Karen R. Zittleman came to American University as a graduate student, worked with Dr. Sadker on gender equity research, then began researching teacher education issues, and now has graduated to co-author of this text. Karen brings both energy and insights to this textbook. Karen attended the University of Wisconsin for her bachelor’s degree, and American University for her master’s and doctorate. She teaches at American University’s School of Education, and has been a virtual teacher for several courses offered online through the Women’s Educational Equity Act. Her articles about gender, Title IX, and teacher education appear in the Journal of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership, Phi Delta Kappan, Principal and other professional journals. She is a contributing author to Teaching and Gender Equity: Foundations, Skills, Methods and Strategies (Lawrence Erlbaum publishers), and has created several equity websites. Karen has also authored Making Public Schools Great for Every Girl and Boy, an instructional guide on promoting equity in math and science instruction (National Educational Association), and educational film guides for A Hero for Daisy and Apple Pie: Raising Champions. She is project manager for Myra Sadker Advocates. Karen’s research interests have focused on educational equity, foundations of education, teacher preparation, and spirituality in education.

David Sadker has taught in middle and senior high schools, as well as at the college level, and has been a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and American University (Washington, DC) for more than three decades. He and his late wife Myra Sadker, gained a national reputation for research and publications concerning the impact of gender in schools. He has written several books and numerous articles in both professional and popular journals. He co-authored Failing at Fairness: How Our Schools Cheat Girls, (Touchstone Press in 1995), and his research has been reported in hundreds of newspapers and magazines including USA Today, USA Weekend, Parade Magazine, Business Week, The Washington Post, The London Times, The New York Times, Time, and Newsweek. He has appeared on local and national television and radio shows such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Phil Donahue’s The Human Animal, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and Talk of the Nation, and twice on Dateline: NBC with Jane Pauley. The Sadkers received the American Educational Research Association’s award for the best review of research published in the United States (1991), their professional service award in 1995, and their Willystine Goodsell award in 2004. The Sadkers were recognized with the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from The American Association of University Women in 1995, and the Gender Architect Award from the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education in 2001. David Sadker has received two honorary doctorates.

No CD even though it's brand new...

I'm VERY disappointed that Amazon did not specify that this book did NOT contain the CD even when you buy it new. This is the book needed by everyone beginning the teaching program at my school. Now the majority of us are not fully prepared because of the lack of information. So much for planning early and buying books before classes start.

There was supposed to be a CD included and I bought this book new, so I thought that it would have the CD for sure and it does not. My class starts in 5 days and I don't have time to order another book. Amazon did not indicate to me that there would not be a CD included and for that reason I'm giving this product a bad review.
